ABOUT US

An organization for the hunter who wants to get the most out of their dog during hunting season and keep them trained and in shape during the off season

The High Desert Pointing Dog Club (HDPDC), based in South Central Idaho, was established as a group of hunters who wanted to work and train their pointing dogs during the off season. We will not train your dog for you, but we will show you how to train your Pointing Dog. The HDPDC is not breed specific. Meetings and events are open to all Pointing Breeds. Member participate with German Shorthairs, Brittanys, English Pointers and Setters, Vizslas, German Wirehairs, Griffons, and an occasional Weimaraner.

Training the Trainer

Even the best hunting dogs can become some of the lowest performers. We don't only believe in keeping the dogs trained, but keeping ourselves accountable for how we handle them.

Helping the Youth

We believe in passing the torch to the younger generations, to share our love and knowledge for dogs, birds, and the sport of hunting.

The desire in the pointing breeds are bred into them, we aim to bring out those natural abilities in each dog.

The HDPDC is a family-oriented club that invites participation from men, women, and youth. Club members enjoy those opportunities when we can show today's youth the fun of the outdoors.

Currently HDPDC offers one training day per month where all members are invited to bring their dogs. At these trainings experienced knowledgeable members demonstrate various aspects of the training process and discuss them in as much detail as the member wishes. Club training days are an opportunity for newer members to learn about various specialized equipment and methods needed to train a pointing dog. Proper use of the equipment is emphasized along with methods to reinforce desired behavior from the dog. These training days are for all members and dogs at any state of training, from puppies to fully trained pointing dogs. The club sponsors one event per month in addition to regular club meetings.  Every August the club has a Pre Bird Season Fun Shoot and Fund Raiser to raise funds for the Youth Pheasant Hunt with Idaho Fish and Game.  The HDPDC is also an Affiliate Member of the Idaho Wildlife Federation.

Yearly membership dues: Family-$65, Individual-$55, and Youth-$45.
